Volunteers should receive a feedback survey after every instance of service. Ideally, it is delivered in the automatic thank you email immediately after the project ends so that it’s not an extra step that could easily be forgotten. It’s also helpful to have paper versions on site, or QR codes in signage on site, so that you can have people fill them out in the moment. Don’t forget to verbally remind volunteers to complete them, and tell them how important it is to you! Lastly, results should be monitored regularly. Set benchmarks, and take action when they are surpassed. Negative feedback should be addressed with the complainant, and ideated around as a staff. Positive feedback should be saved and used as testimonials on marketing materials and funding applications. And the Net Promoter Score can be reported out on to leadership & the board – it’s the best indicator of your experience.
